In this game, five additional cards are placed in the center of the table.  They are gradually turned up, one at a time.  All players consider these cards as part of their hand.  Every player can use any of the community cards as part of his or her hand, although you must include your pocket cards in your hand as well.  A poker hand is only five cards, regardless of the seven cards that are out there. So the two cards in your hand, the pocket cards, must be put into your Texas Holdem hand. You can choose three cards from the community cards to also add to your hand.

The betting in Texas Hold em starts with the flop.  These are the first three cards that are turned up, one at a time, on the table.  Because everyone can use these cards in their hand, you have a good idea of trying to figure out what everyone has or what they are shooting for.  You have no idea, however, the pocket cards of the other players.  You should stay in the game for the flop but, if you do not have a pair by the time the third card is turned over, you should drop the game.  If the pair is in the flop, remember that everyone has these cards in their hand and, if someone has a similar card, they already have three of a kind.  If a pair is turned over in the flop and you do not have one of the pair cards in your pocket cards, it is time to drop.

The next aspect of the Texas Hold em game is the turn.  This is the fourth card that is turned over.  Many players will leave the game after the turn, especially if several of them are betting and raising.  If you think you have a good hand and players are simply calling bets and not raising, or if several players have dropped, you should stay in the game.  If you have a straight or higher in Texas Hold em, you should not leave the game.

How to Play 7 Card Stud Poker

An Introduction to 7 Card Stud Poker

7 Card Stud Poker is one of the harder games of poker to learn to play oppose to Texas Holdem or Omaha High / Low which are relatively easy and can be taught in a few minutes. 7 Card Stud was originally the more popular game of poker until Texas Hold em came along, however it is still widely played and is classed as the classic game of poker.

7 Card Stud can be played both high and low. High 7 Card Stud means the player with the highest hand wins the pot, 7 Card Stud High/Low means the winner has to split the winnings with the lowest hand.

How To Play 7-Card Stud Poker

Ante In – Up to 8 players can join the game of 7 Card Stud. To begin with every player puts in an ante. An ante is the amount you have to bet in order to play the game so there is money in the pot. The amount of the ante depends on the game and the amount that is set before the game begins.

Dealer – the dealer deals out 2 pocket cards to each player, and one card facing up, this card is called a door card. The person with the lowest card facing up has to put into the pot a small bet called a bring-in. The betting continues around the table from the left of that player and each player has the option of raising, calling or folding.

More cards – after everyone has placed their bets a 4th card given to each player facing up. The player with the highest cards starts off the betting and this continues in a clockwise direction around the table. After everyone has betted a 5th card is dealt to each player facing up. Again the player with the highest cards starts the betting. Once this has finished a 6th card is dealt facing up and the highest cards player starts the betting again. The final 7th card is dealt face down and a final round of betting occurs.

The Great Finale – the player who can make the best hand of poker with 5 cards from the 7 they were dealt wins the game and wins the pot. In a game of high/low 7 card stud the hand with the highest hand wins but also splits the winning with the person who can make the lowest hand out of their 7 cards.

It may happen that there are not enough cards to finish the game depending on how many players stay in the game all the way to the end; in this case the dealer instead of dealing a card each will place the card in the middle as a community card which everyone can use.
